Two weeks ago I went Vegan. Or at least I thought I had. As it turns out, I've taken it further than that. Apparently I am what is called a Macrobiotic, which sounds like it should be an ingredient in one of those yogurts to help you poop better.
A macrobiotic is someone who does not eat meat, or any animal products ,OR any refined grains/sugar. Now, while this does describe my diet, it doesn't describe me.
( Here"s the thing....Collapse )
I still have a long ways to go though. I don't know if I'll go back to meat at some point, but as far as sugar goes, I'm looking at a life-long change, because I'm up against the genetics of 4 grandparents and a mother with diabetes.
I'll write more about the specifics of my diet next time. Until then, hopefully I'll continue to decline on the scale and *crosses fingers* sleep.
I wanted to ask you guys for tips on speeding up their recovery.
First off, they are emaciated, flee ridden, and had eye infections (one or both eyes sealed shut with puss).
So what I've done so far is:
-bathed them thoroughly
-wiped their eyes with warm damp cloth, and applied eye rinse and ointment daily
-spritzed them with flea killer (I worried they may be too young, but the fleas were eating them alive so I had to do something)
-fed them milk-sub daily (one of 'em was so hungry he chewed the nipple right off the bottle and ate it!)
-served them canned food 2x daily
-wiped them down with a damp cloth daily to simulate a mother cleaning them (I call it "lick licks")
So far they seem to be ok. They are eating. The fleas are mostly dead (it looks like there was a flea battle of epic proportions on my bathroom floor). One of them is playing, the other 2 just crouch away in corners. Generally they have all started to warm up to me, they were very skidish at the start of course. The 2 shy ones' eyes have cleared up just fine, but the playful one (oddly enough) has a severe eye condition that I will try to show the vet on monday. His eyes are basically completely red and swollen. When he opens them, it looks like a red semi-transparent membrane has grown from the 2nd eyelid across the cornea completely. And they weap a little (kinda yellowish clear). I can tell that he can still see a little, but not much. I can't tell if he's in much pain, he doesn't fight me when I clean his eyes.
Anything you can suggest to maybe speed up this process would be much appreciated.
Thanks all!
I have a Wii (finally)
I'm addicted to Harvest Moon
I finally got my computer up and running (been neglecting it for like +6 months)
I have short blonde hair (thinking about adding pink or something)
I've been a little bum/stressed from work
I am now a licenced CPR and First Aid Instructor
I was not accepted into grad school, so I'm gonna get crackin' on th Foster parenting papers.
My parents have been in Hawaii the past 2 weeks, so I've been house/dog/cat sitting. It's weird spending so much time at my old house, but alone.
Lee's cousin (our neighbors) got married over the weekend, so I've got a new couz-in-law.
That's it for now.

Is it just me or do these guys remind you of Flight of the Conchords?

Oh my god. So much hot man-ness. *drool*
I'm totally crushing on Patrick Wilson and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. *growl*
And no complaints here about the luminescent blue penis that made an appearance several times in the film. Though I have to admit a part of me giggled inside each time I saw it. I try to keep my immaturity in check. Though I can't say the same for other movie goers, who laughed uncomfortably at it or who responded with a manly disgusted "Ugh!"
Many visual-cultural codes were broken in this film and I am always a big fan of that. Male nudity being one of them. Also Rorschach being a short freckle-faced redheaded badass. And Dr. Manhattan (an indestructible, all powerful being) was very soft spoken and meek in his mannerisms. I also liked how the character Laura (Silk Spectre) was allowed to be romantically and sexually involved with two men without being painted as a whore/slut/so on, or without the "other man" being spitefully made into a douche bag. And Rorschach manning up and apologizing for being too "rough" in his behavior and judgment.
I also appreciate the general unpolished quality of the characters: like when The Comedian was crying so hard that he drooled, or when Night Owl couldn't "get it up".
I typically don't like super hero movies. In fact I would say I usually despise them. To me they are simply mastrubatory fantasies of what some dude wishes he could be or do. The only exceptions being the new Batman movies, and now, Watchmen, which both examine human nature and challenge the notion of an external good vs. evil. Rather they look at the internal struggle of good and evil in each of us. They question the ability of anyone (even those with the best of intentions) to make the world a perfect place, and suggest that maybe making the world a slightly better place is the most we could hope or work for.
The bees are gone. The white petals are starting to flutter off the branches and young green leaves are sprouting. They're almond trees. Some of the black fuzzy pods have shriveled, while others are full and expanding. I wonder why some would shrivel and fall off. The rows of trees and grass reach back far from the noisey streets, further than I thought. The quietness and slowness of the trees gives me time and space to think. Quiet allows expansion. It gives room see and know the space. Noise always closes me in, makes me retract from my surroundings. Racket damages me, shrivels me. In quiet I heal, and grow.

Thanks to all of you for your yummy suggestions!
I ended up doing what
finefinemusic said to do
Cream cheese (mixed with crushed garlic, minced bell peppers, tabasco, salt & sugar to taste)
Stuff chicken breasts with sliced bell peppers, bake at 350 F for 30 mins.
